Sonora Ties Purple Ribbons at Courthouse Square for DV Awareness Month
More than 20 people gathered Thursday in downtown Sonora to tie purple ribbons around Courthouse Square during the fifth annual Paint the Town Purple event, organized by Center For A Non Violent Community (CNVC) for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. CNVC, Tuolumne County's crisis agency for domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, reported 8,582 services to 701 DV survivors and 1,355 services to 167 sexual assault survivors from Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026. The agency completed its first major shelter improvements in over 60 years—a roughly $250,000 project adding a renovated bathroom, two bedrooms and a youth center—and plans to seek a Board of Supervisors proclamation recognizing October as DV Awareness Month on Oct. 20.
