Two Yreka-Area Traffic Stops Net 100 Pounds of Meth, Over a Ton of Marijuana
Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office sergeants made two drug-related traffic stops on consecutive days in October in the Yreka area, seizing approximately 100 pounds of methamphetamine and over 2,254 pounds of uncertified marijuana. On Thursday, Oct. 22, a sergeant stopped Juan Collado Penazola, 44, of Washington state, in north Yreka during a rainstorm; a consent search of his Chevrolet Suburban yielded about 45,165 grams of methamphetamine. The day before, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, another sergeant stopped Omar Jacob Gonzalez, 36, driving a truck towing a U-Haul trailer northbound on Interstate 5 and found the black-market marijuana lacking required certifications. Both drivers were arrested on suspicion of possession and transportation charges under California Health and Safety Code; formal charges are determined by the Siskiyou County District Attorney's Office.
