Former Templeton Advisory Group Chair Jailed Early; TAAG Faces Dissolution

David Leader, 71, former chairman of the Templeton Area Advisory Group (TAAG), was jailed on Oct. 8 for allegedly violating his felony probation, more than three weeks before his original Oct. 31 reporting date. In July, Leader pleaded guilty to one felony count of vandalism and seven misdemeanor counts of violating a court order, receiving 30 days in county jail and two years of supervised probation. About eight neighbors hold temporary restraining orders against him, alleging years of harassment on Orchard Road; Leader denied wrongdoing in an interview with KSBY. Following his resignation from TAAG, four additional board members resigned, leaving only two—below the four needed to conduct business under TAAG bylaws. San Luis Obispo County Supervisor John Peschong said the Board of Supervisors must formally unrecognize TAAG before a replacement group can be formed and approved.

San Luis Obispo Council Approves RFP for E-Bike Share Program; Launch Possible Spring 2027

At its Oct. 6 meeting, the San Luis Obispo City Council approved a Request for Proposals seeking a vendor to operate a dock-based electric bike-share system in partnership with Cal Poly. The program, discussed locally for over a decade, follows a similar 2024 RFP that failed to attract an operator due to business and operational challenges. City staff say the new solicitation, expected to be released later this month, could include virtual docks allowing riders to pick up and park bikes within designated areas. A city staff report indicates the program would come at no cost to either the city or Cal Poly. If vendor selection proceeds as anticipated, a bikeshare system could launch in San Luis Obispo as early as spring 2027.
