Hollister Council Fires City Manager Ana Cortez in 3-2 Vote
The Hollister City Council voted 3-2 in a closed session on Oct. 21 to terminate City Manager Ana Cortez's contract "for convenience," with Vice Mayor Priscilla de Anda and Councilmember Rolan Resendiz voting against the dismissal. The decision followed Cortez issuing layoff notices on Oct. 14 to at least 36 city employees across police, public works, airport, parks and recreation, and finance departments, prompting votes of no confidence from the Hollister Police Officers Association and SEIU local chapter. City Attorney Dayna D. Louie announced that Hollister Airport Director Jeff Crechriou was appointed acting city manager while the council considers options for a permanent replacement. The affected employees' administrative leave had been set to end with employment termination on Nov. 13, though the council voted on Oct. 19 to end that leave and continue meeting-and-conferring discussions.
