New York City voters approved all five ballot proposals on Tuesday aimed at reducing government red tape and speeding up approvals for outdoor dining, city contracts, street safety projects, construction permits, and financial reserves. The measures were advanced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani's Commission on Government Efficiency. Question 1 (63.2%) streamlines private-use-of-public-space approvals; Question 2 (61.6%) simplifies procurement paperwork; Question 3 (65.5%) accelerates street safety projects and shortens approval for small city-owned property transactions; Question 4 (67.5%) creates a centralized construction permitting hub; and Question 5 (72.3%) sets a 12% reserve target for future financial emergencies. Several watchdog groups including Citizens Union, the Citizens Budget Commission, and Common Cause offered mixed support or opposition on individual measures, citing concerns about public participation, oversight safeguards, and fiscal strength.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani sent a letter Monday to DHS leadership stating that ICE's use of city-owned parking lots, including one outside the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, is unauthorized and illegal. The mayor warned the federal government would face legal action if agents continue using city property for immigration enforcement staging. DHS responded by doubling down on operations in the five boroughs, asserting its use of public lots is authorized under federal law. In recent weeks, ICE arrests have been reported in the immigrant-heavy neighborhoods of Corona and Elmhurst, and soon-to-be Assemblymember Brian Romero said he witnessed two arrests in Elmhurst during which agents allegedly maced a local resident before throwing them to the ground.

State Sen. John Liu told the board the grid upgrade is necessary for future electrification needs, while CB 11 Chairman Paul DiBenedetto said the concern is "location, location, location." The New York State Public Service Commission approved Propel's certificate of environmental compatibility and public need on Sept. 17.
