California Agriculture Groups Urge Newsom on Dyed Diesel Fuel Use

As California diesel prices reached approximately $8.40 per gallon, a coalition including the California Farm Bureau sent Gov. Gavin Newsom a letter requesting he allow dyed diesel fuel on public roads, mirroring President Trump's Oct. 5 executive order that delayed federal taxes on dyed diesel and temporarily permitted highway use. California law prohibits dyed diesel on highways, and Newsom has not officially responded to the request. The groups also asked for reduced state excise taxes, citing a Farm Bureau survey in which more than half of respondents said lower diesel prices would help keep their operations financially viable. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins urged remaining governors to follow suit, estimating combined savings exceeding $640 million across approximately 224.6 million harvested acres.
