Kentucky Governor Appeals Trump's Denial of FEMA Aid for Five Counties
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear filed an appeal Friday asking FEMA Acting Associate Administrator David Arnot to reconsider President Trump's September denial of public assistance for Bracken, Carroll, Grant, Pendleton and Trimble counties following deadly storms June 17-30. Trump had approved $9.1 million in FEMA public assistance for 20 other Kentucky counties affected by the flooding and severe weather that killed six people statewide. Beshear also requested individual assistance for seven additional counties and asked FEMA to extend the incident period from five days to the full June 17-30 window. The governor said recovery without federal support "far exceeds the capabilities of the affected counties" and warned of negative impacts lasting years.
