Broward Health Districts Approve CEO Pay of Up to $3.85 Million

Broward County's Memorial Healthcare System and Broward Health boards unanimously approved a new compensation agreement for Shane Strum, CEO of both taxpayer-funded health systems, providing up to $3.85 million in total annual cash compensation. The pay is retroactive to Sept. 2, when the boards named Strum permanent CEO after two years as interim, and includes a $2.66 million base salary plus up to a 45% performance incentive bonus. Healthcare consulting firm SullivanCotter placed the compensation at the 75th percentile for salary among similar hospital CEOs. Strum has led Broward Health since March 2021 and oversees combined operations generating approximately $5.6 billion in annual revenue from 10 hospitals.

Cannon is one of six coaches investigated for unauthorized rentals; three others completed diversion programs, while one case remains pending and another charge was declined. The district stated it is strengthening policies to prevent similar compliance issues.
