Measure W was passing in Yolo County's first unofficial results for the Nov. 3 election. As of 1:37 a.m. Wednesday, it had 11,582 yes votes (73.17%) and 4,246 no votes (26.83%). The count included 16,608 ballots from the city's 37,417 registered voters (44.39%), and all 18 of the measure's precincts were reporting. Measure W needs approval by a majority of Davis voters voting on it.
According to the city attorney's impartial analysis, Measure W amends the Davis General Plan to allow the Willowgrove project on about 232 acres bounded by East Covell Boulevard to the south and the Wildhorse and Palomino subdivisions to the west. The site is designated for agriculture now. The approved features include zoning for 1,250 homes, at least 250 of them deed-restricted affordable units, and a developer donation of at least $6.8 million for affordable housing. These "baseline project features" can't be significantly changed later without another public vote. If the measure is approved, the analysis says, annexation of the site into the city could proceed.
The results aren't final. The county called the 1:37 a.m. release its final update for election night. It plans the next by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and then updates every Tuesday and Friday by 5 p.m. until the election is certified, which must happen by Dec. 3.
Two Davis City Council seats were on the ballot, and each had a single candidate: Judy Ennis in District 1 (2,642 votes so far) and Gloria Partida in District 4 (2,579 votes).
In the Davis Joint Unified School District board races, Colleen Zern led Dorte Jensen in Trustee Area 1, 2,910 votes (84.72%) to 525 (15.28%). In Trustee Area 3, Joe DiNunzio led Kurt Wendlenner 1,865 (65.58%) to 979 (34.42%). In Trustee Area 4, Elizabeth Moon led Beth Bourne 3,270 (87.69%) to 459 (12.31%).
