The City of Marion announced on Nov. 3, 2026 that City Council Member Juanita Doggett has submitted her resignation from the Marion City Council, effective Dec. 31, 2026.

In the statement, Doggett said she broke a hip during the summer and received medical care and support from her sister during her recovery. “At this stage in my life, I feel it is important to be closer to family and make that a priority,” she said.

Minutes of the Aug. 18, 2026 regular council meeting record Doggett’s absence “due to a recent medical procedure.”

Marion's council is a mayor plus five members, all elected at-large on a non-partisan basis for four-year staggered terms. The city’s posted schedule provides for only one regular council meeting in December, on the first Tuesday — Dec. 1 in 2026. As of Nov. 4, the city's City Council Information page still lists Doggett as a sitting member.

The city’s Nov. 3 resignation announcement did not describe a process or timetable for filling her seat.
