Tompkins Square Park Meetup Sunday to 4 p.m.; CB3 Vote Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
A two-day community meetup supporting the bars and courts at Tompkins Square Park continues Sunday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., inviting residents of all ages to work out, play basketball, dance, or meet fellow users. The gathering precedes a full Community Board 3 vote on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at P.S. 20, 166 Essex St., on the park's proposed $9.93 million renovation. The Parks Department plan would replace the existing mini-pool with an in-ground pool, renovate basketball courts, replace fitness equipment, and resurface the recreation area over approximately 18 months. Some longtime users advocate for repairs rather than wholesale reconstruction and are concerned about losing access during construction. Residents wishing to speak at the CB3 meeting can sign up by 3 p.m. Tuesday or in person between 6 and 6:30 p.m., with speakers limited to two minutes each.
