Lake County Early Voters Weigh Governor Race, Amendment 3

Lake County voters cast early ballots Friday at the Venetian Center at Venetian Gardens, with Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays reporting 25,919 votes by that afternoon out of 278,944 registered voters. Voters discussed the governor's race between Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly, as well as Amendment 3, which would raise the homestead property tax exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 for non-school taxes. County sheriffs have opposed Amendment 3, citing potential budget cuts affecting first responder services. Hays said the county averaged about 5,000 early votes per day and received 17,000 return mail ballots. Election Day is Nov. 3.
