Colorado AG Sues Trump Over Retaliation After Election Official Conviction
Tina Peters, a former Mesa County election official, was convicted in 2024 of three misdemeanors and four felonies for allowing unauthorized access to voting equipment and obstructing an investigation. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser filed suit alleging President Trump retaliated against the state after the conviction by denying wildfire aid, threatening food assistance, canceling $109 million in transportation funding, and targeting the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder. Gov. Jared Polis commuted Peters' nearly nine-year sentence in May after she served less than two years, drawing criticism from the Colorado County Clerks Association. The White House denies any politicization of disaster relief decisions.
