Mendocino Housing Hub Asks Supervisors to Consider Amnesty Program at Oct. 20 Meeting
The Mendocino Housing Hub, a county resident advocacy group with over 500 petition signatures, is asking the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors to consider a Community Designed Amnesty Program for unpermitted buildings aligned with state AB 2533 at their October 20 meeting, which begins at 9 a.m. The proposal seeks to address code enforcement practices affecting an estimated hundreds of residents living in unpermitted homes, including elderly and low-income homeowners, and calls for changes to complaint-driven investigations and financial assistance for vulnerable property owners. The push comes amid a staffing crisis in the county's Code Enforcement Division, where two field investigators each carry roughly 94 cases, and about 343 cases have recorded liens. At an October 6 meeting, supervisors revisited a September 2025 decision requiring complainants to identify themselves after more than 250 anonymous complaints believed to originate from a single source.
