Marin Deputy Honored for Rescuing Woman from Submerged Car
Marin County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Dawson received the Medal of Valor from the California State Sheriffs' Association for rescuing a woman trapped in a submerged vehicle during a storm last February. The rescue occurred near Point Reyes after the driver lost control and became unable to exit her car as floodwaters rose. Dawson broke a window to extract the woman, who stated that his actions saved her life. Officials used the occasion to remind drivers to avoid flooded roadways and exercise caution during wet weather.
