Experts Warn Humboldt Bay Dikes Vulnerable to King Tides
Humboldt Bay’s earthen dikes, built in the late 1800s, are increasingly vulnerable to failure due to sea level rise and subsidence. Experts note that the dikes are now approximately 1.5 feet lower relative to king tides than when constructed, increasing breach risks.
