Housing & Development · Lodi, CA
The Lodi City Council will consider a proposal on Wednesday to annex nearly 100 acres of unincorporated land west of Lower Sacramento Road. The plan, recommended by the Planning Commission in August, would designate the area for mixed-use development, including low- and medium-density housing, commercial spaces, and public facilities such as a future fire station. While some property owners expressed concerns regarding notice and traffic safety, others supported the expansion, which is part of Lodi's long-term growth strategy. Council approval would initiate the formal application process with the San Joaquin County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO).

California winegrowers removed over 47,000 acres of vineyards between August 2025 and August 2026, according to a new statewide mapping project. The decline reflects declining wine demand and a surplus of grapes, with San Joaquin County’s grape crop value falling nearly $47 million to $272 million in 2025. Local growers continue to face lower prices and unharvested fruit due to lost contracts. A public webinar on the findings is scheduled for October 29 at 11 a.m.

The Lodi City Council will consider increasing the city manager's authorization for additional cleanup costs at 212 W. Pine St., across from City Hall, from $100,000 to $235,000 after crews discovered a concrete floor twice as thick as expected and two buried concrete structures. The work is part of Lodi's decades-long effort to remediate PCE and TCE contamination in the Downtown area, first detected in the late 1980s through routine water testing. Tenants relocated in early 2025 to allow the cleanup, which city officials expect to complete within the next month. As of July 2025, the city had removed more than 17,500 pounds of PCE from the Central Plume Source Area.
