Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter is seeking business and community-group sponsors for its annual Jingle Build-Off, in which teams assemble and decorate children's playhouses for 100 local families requesting one this Christmas. Completed playhouses will be showcased at holiday events Dec. 4 in Wildwood and Dec. 5 in Tavares. Sponsorships cost $2,500 per playhouse or $1,500 for a Youth Build option staffed by student volunteers, with teams able to build at their own locations or on-site in Tavares in December. Habitat's director of development Amanda Spradlin said 18 playhouses were committed at the time of publication against a goal of at least 25, and sign-ups remain open through the end of November. The program also supports Habitat's broader affordable housing work in Lake and Sumter counties, which received about 700 homeownership applications this year.
