New York City voters approved all five ballot proposals on Tuesday aimed at reducing government red tape and speeding up approvals for outdoor dining, city contracts, street safety projects, construction permits, and financial reserves. The measures were advanced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani's Commission on Government Efficiency. Question 1 (63.2%) streamlines private-use-of-public-space approvals; Question 2 (61.6%) simplifies procurement paperwork; Question 3 (65.5%) accelerates street safety projects and shortens approval for small city-owned property transactions; Question 4 (67.5%) creates a centralized construction permitting hub; and Question 5 (72.3%) sets a 12% reserve target for future financial emergencies. Several watchdog groups including Citizens Union, the Citizens Budget Commission, and Common Cause offered mixed support or opposition on individual measures, citing concerns about public participation, oversight safeguards, and fiscal strength.
