Tuolumne County Residents, Officials Seek PG&E Answers After Multiday Power Shutoffs

More than 18,000 PG&E customers in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties experienced multiday public safety power shutoffs that began late Wednesday, with winds forecast to trigger wildfire risk never materializing. By Friday afternoon, most Tuolumne County customers had power restored, though 847 Mi-Wuk Village customers remained without electricity until an expected 6 p.m. restoration. PG&E local government representative Nathan Alonzo is scheduled to attend the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at 2 S. Green St. in Sonora to address resident and official concerns about food spoilage, generator costs, and the utility's forecasting process. Community resource centers offering charging stations, Wi-Fi, water, and snacks operated from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at Word of Life Fellowship in Mi-Wuk Village and Eproson Park in Twain Harte.

Tuolumne County Board to Consider $1.8M Axon Contract at Tuesday 9 a.m. Meeting

A proposed nearly $1.8 million five-year expansion of the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office contract with Axon Enterprise Inc. would add real-time body-camera livestreaming, drone integration and AI-assisted report writing, but does not include automated license-plate readers, Sheriff David Vasquez confirmed in a Friday interview. The agreement is item No. 13 on the county Board of Supervisors agenda for a public meeting Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the County Administration Center, 2 S. Green St., downtown Sonora. The Sheriff's Office is requesting approval without competitive bidding, citing added costs, compatibility concerns and potential risks to digital evidence from switching vendors. Axon Draft One would use AI to summarize body-camera footage for incident reports, though deputies retain responsibility for reviewing and verifying all generated content.
