Death Valley National Park Begins $69.5M Water System Rehabilitation

On October 21, Death Valley National Park broke ground on a $69.5 million Furnace Creek Water Systems Rehabilitation Project to replace aging water and wastewater infrastructure dating to the 1960s. The three-year project will replace more than 30 miles of pipeline, drill new wells, upgrade sewage lift stations, and rehabilitate treatment plants at Cow Creek and Furnace Creek. Funded through the Legacy Restoration Fund established by the Great American Outdoors Act, the work aims to end recurring boil-water advisories, sewage spills, and campground closures caused by deteriorating systems in extreme desert conditions. The project serves park visitors, employees, residents, and the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, and supports gateway-community economies tied to tourism.
