Hoboken School Lockdown Resolved; Jersey City Approves Development Changes
On October 29, Hoboken Middle School was placed on lockdown and Church Square Park was cleared after a phone call considered a potential threat; Rue School and Calabro School were also placed under shelter-in-place orders before the incident was resolved without issue per Hoboken PD. The Jersey City Planning Board approved several development changes on October 27, including a 31st story at 54 Jones Street, a 28-story Powerhouse Arts District housing bonus, and 17 new units in the Heights, and recommended the former Heights University Hospital site be designated for redevelopment with condemnation. Hoboken is considering new short-term rental regulations following an October 18 incident on Garden Street, and is moving to void and rebid a $8.29 million contract for the Frank Sinatra Drive Complete Streets Redesign after the contractor failed to execute the agreement.
