Faith Hedgepeth Killer Sentenced to Life After 14-Year Case
Miguel Salguero-Olivares was sentenced to life in prison for the 2012 murder of Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old UNC student killed in Chapel Hill. The conviction came after more than 14 years of investigation by Chapel Hill Police and prosecution led by Durham County District Attorney Satana Deberry's office, which used DNA and forensic evidence from the crime scene. Family members, police leadership, and prosecutors spoke publicly Friday following the sentencing proceedings. Hedgepeth was a resident of Hollister, N.C., and her death drew significant local and national attention due to her status as a UNC student.
