Groveland Transfers Historic Train Depot to City for Restoration
On Friday, Oct. 30, the City of Groveland officially acquired the historic 1925 train depot at 122 State Road 19 from Avalon Park Group. The transfer marks a milestone in preservation efforts for the landmark, which is tied to both local industry history and the 1949 arrest of Charles Greenlee, one of the Groveland Four. City officials plan to restore the building as a downtown gateway and trail hub, with a $500,000 budget allocated for the first phase of restoration. The project aims to integrate the depot into upcoming transportation improvements, including the State Road 50 realignment expected to finish in summer 2028.
