Mother Calls for Security After Son Shot in Second Apartment Complex Shooting in a Year
A 13-year-old boy was shot four times while sleeping inside his family's apartment at Capitol Vanira on Hank Aaron Drive in southeast Atlanta on Sunday, according to his mother Shantavia Battle. Detectives said the unit was targeted with more than 100 shots fired into it. The incident marks the second shooting at the same complex within a year; the boy was also injured in a drive-by shooting there about 12 months ago that wounded three other boys. Battle is calling for increased security, noting no on-site personnel are present despite a mobile surveillance unit remaining in the parking lot from the prior incident. Atlanta police have not named a suspect or released a motive.
