BLM Seeks Public Comments on Whiskey Mountain Bighorn Sheep Habitat Project by Nov. 16
The Bureau of Land Management, along with the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish and U.S. Wildland Fire Service, is accepting public comments on a proposed project to mechanically remove encroaching conifers from approximately 225 acres near Dubois, including portions within the Whiskey Mountain Wilderness Study Area. The project aims to restore winter forage and open sightlines for the Whiskey Mountain Bighorn Sheep herd, which was once the largest wintering concentration in the country but has declined significantly since the early 1990s due to recurring pneumonia outbreaks and low lamb recruitment. Comments are due by November 16 and may be submitted to Jared Oakleaf at the Lander Field Office in Lander, WY.
