The California state Parole Board unanimously denied parole for Jose Romero, a Rohnert Park man serving a life sentence for severely slashing his wife in a secluded Fairfield field on Aug. 11, 2011, and set no new suitability hearing for at least three years. Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams criticized the process under Penal Code Section 3041, which allows inmates to petition for earlier reviews based on claimed changes in circumstances, noting Romero had previously been denied parole in 2022 and 2025. The board found Romero still posed an unreasonable risk to the community. Abrams said the repeated hearings place additional burdens on victims who must relive traumatic experiences.

Federal prosecutors in Sacramento have filed supervised release violations against Desean Bailey, 39, for allegedly threatening the principal of Cleo Gordon Elementary School in Fairfield. The incident occurred during a heated argument on campus in late August, where Bailey reportedly stated he would return to kill the principal after his child was sent home with a relative Bailey deemed unfit. Bailey has prior federal convictions for illegal gun possession in San Francisco. Although prosecutors argued Bailey posed a danger to the community due to a prior assault conviction, a federal judge released him while the case is pending.
