Fairfield Council to Vote on Data Center Moratorium Oct. 20

About 30 residents of Fairfield and Vacaville gathered at an Oct. 7 community meeting to oppose a proposed 150 MW data center in Planning Area 6, a 289-acre industrial park near Canon Road and North Gate Road in northeast Fairfield bordering Vacaville. Fairfield Vice Mayor Pam Bertani announced she will introduce a motion for a citywide moratorium on data centers at the Oct. 20 City Council meeting. Community members raised concerns about water usage, electricity demand, noise, environmental impacts, and property values, citing documents obtained through public records requests. Planning Commission Chair George Kennedy proposed a policy requiring noise analysis and disclosure of water and power use, with a petition gathering 98 signatures. The developer, North Point Development, has not yet submitted a formal project application, though city staff have been working on related planning documents for over a year and a half.
