Sacramento District 7 Congressional Race Heads Into Nov. 3 Election
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui (82) and Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang (41) made their final campaign arguments to voters in California's 7th Congressional District ahead of the November 3 election. The district, redrawn under Proposition 50 approved in November 2025, spans parts of Sacramento, El Dorado, and San Joaquin counties including Elk Grove, Galt, Placerville, and portions of Sacramento and Lodi. A Data for Progress poll conducted August 18-21 found Vang at 32% and Matsui at 28%, with 40% undecided or skipping the race. The candidates clashed on abolishing ICE versus restructuring it, Medicare for All versus defending existing federal programs, and restoring DEI workforce cuts versus leveraging seniority to protect residents. Both condemned Trump administration immigration enforcement tactics connected to the Moss Federal Building in Sacramento.
