Woman Alleges Sexual Assault at Off-Campus Fraternity Near U. of Chicago
A woman reported to the Chicago Police Department that she was sexually assaulted in a bathroom at an off-campus party held Sunday morning at 5625 S. University Ave. in Hyde Park, home of the Lambda chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi. The victim, who is not a university student, said she lost consciousness after feeling unwell and woke to find clothing removed and assault had occurred; witnesses described three to five men cheering outside the bathroom door. On Tuesday afternoon, the University of Chicago issued a community alert identifying a person of interest—described as a 5-foot-7 man with dark complexion—who is not affiliated with the university and has been banned from campus. No charges have been filed, and the CPD investigation remains active; the fraternity chapter was told to halt programming while authorities investigate.
