Federal Judge Questions Trump Admin Over D.C. Golf Course Redevelopment; Work Blocked Until Oct. 26

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes questioned the Trump administration's claims during a Monday hearing about its plans to redevelop a 106-year-old golf course in Washington, D.C., after large-scale tree removal occurred over a holiday weekend with little notice to the court. Reyes had previously ordered a halt to redevelopment work until at least Oct. 26 following the emergency tree cutting. The plaintiffs—the D.C. Preservation League and two golfers—argue the project would violate the congressional act creating the park and make the space less affordable for residents. Trump announced on social media plans to close the course for 15 months starting Nov. 15, while Reyes rejected a government recusal motion, stating the administration failed to meet the legal standard.

D.C. Judges Rule on Trump Construction Projects; Golf Course Closes Nov. 15

Federal and district court judges in Washington, D.C., are adjudicating multiple lawsuits challenging President Trump's construction projects across the capital, including a proposed monumental arch, potential renovation or demolition of the Kennedy Center, a White House ballroom replacing the East Wing, and redevelopment of a public golf course. Judge Ana Reyes expressed frustration after the administration cut trees at the golf course over a holiday weekend without notifying plaintiffs, and later denied a government motion to remove her from the case. Trump announced on social media that the golf course will close for 15 months beginning Nov. 15 for redevelopment. Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the Kennedy Center board to give 30-day notice before any demolition plans and blocked Trump's name from being restored to the building.

New D.C. Arch Planning Documents Omit Trump's Claimed Military Complex

New Interior Department planning documents for the proposed 250-foot Triumphal Arch in Washington, D.C., do not mention the "military complex" President Trump said in September he agreed to include at the military's request, with features such as drone storage, ammunition, and sniper positions. The National Park Service justified the structure's size by citing the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding, while an Interior Department spokesperson stated the current design is capable of accommodating national security functions. The arch is proposed for a circle adjacent to Memorial Bridge connecting D.C. with northern Virginia, and opponents argue it would disrupt the view between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. A National Capital Planning Commission meeting on the project is set for Nov. 3, two days after midterm elections, and the proposal faces legal challenges.
