Teacher Who Fought Gunman at Bend School Shooting Releases First Statement
Cassidy Schutz, a certified learning specialist at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, released her first public statement on Friday following the Oct. 15 school shooting that killed teacher Megan Lambert and three students. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said Schutz threw her cellphone at the shooter and wrestled him for his shotgun, actions credited with helping save lives alongside student's father Kaylub Giamanco. The 16-year-old former student who opened fire into a special needs classroom was also killed; another teacher, Becky Drury, and a 7-year-old girl survived gunshot wounds.
