Bend School Shooting Survivor Who Killed Gunman Speaks Out
Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter whose daughters attend Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, fatally shot 16-year-old gunman Griffin J. John II during the Oct. 15 attack that killed three children (ages 5, 8, and 11) and a teacher. Giamanco told Oregon Public Broadcasting he regrets not arriving soon enough to save all victims, calling himself the children's "last line of defense." Police credited Giamanco and an unidentified teacher who physically confronted the shooter with saving additional lives; another student was critically injured and a second teacher was hospitalized.
