U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson contacted ICE Acting Director David Venturella to demand an investigation after reports that an ICE vehicle struck a pedestrian in Woodland, California, on October 20, 2026. The Woodland Police Department confirmed it is conducting a criminal investigation and stated that initial video evidence contradicts claims by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding the incident. Police Chief Ryan Kinnan noted that investigators found the driver applied brakes before the collision and cooperated with local authorities, but disputed allegations that the pedestrian jumped onto or slid off the vehicle.

Woodland Police Chief Ryan Kinnan said Wednesday night that video evidence contradicted a Department of Homeland Security statement claiming pedestrian Antonio Moreida jumped onto and slid off the hood of an ICE agent's SUV during a Tuesday morning encounter near College and Clover streets. Investigators determined Moreida was struck by the vehicle, did not jump onto or slide off the hood, and that the driver applied brakes before the collision, remained at the scene, contacted dispatch, and cooperated with officers. An active criminal investigation is underway and will be forwarded to the Yolo County District Attorney's Office for independent review. Moreida was treated at a hospital; he also alleged another vehicle appeared outside his home later while he was being treated, though police said this was not independently established.
