PG&E Shutoffs Could Hit 18,000 in Tuolumne, Calaveras Counties Wednesday Evening Through Saturday
More than 18,000 PG&E customers across Tuolumne and Calaveras counties faced possible public safety power shutoffs beginning Wednesday evening through Saturday afternoon due to strong winds and dry conditions raising wildfire risk. The NWS Sacramento issued a red flag warning for portions of both counties from midnight Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday, with gusts up to 45 mph and humidity as low as single digits. Tuolumne County areas at risk include the upper Highway 108 corridor between Long Barn and Pinecrest, Twain Harte, the town of Tuolumne, parts of Soulsbyville, and the Tuolumne Rancheria; Calaveras County resource centers were set up in West Point and Arnold. Both counties opened community resource centers offering Wi-Fi, charging stations, water, and restrooms, while officials urged residents to charge devices, prepare emergency supplies, and make backup plans for electricity-dependent medical equipment.
