Rapid City Teen Sentenced to Maximum in Fatal Shooting of Box Elder Boy
Isiah Taha, a Rapid City teen who pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the December 2024 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Kade Potter of Box Elder, was sentenced Friday. Judge Jeffrey Connolly imposed the maximum sentence of 10 years at the South Dakota State Penitentiary but suspended four years, with credit for 692 days Taha spent in Pennington County jail. Prosecutors said Taha was heavily intoxicated and handling a firearm when it discharged, killing Potter near Deadwood Avenue and Omaha Street.
