Coastal Flood Advisory for Southern California Beaches Through Friday Oct 30, 2 p.m.

The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard issued a coastal flood advisory Wednesday at 11:39 a.m., in effect until Friday at 2 p.m., covering beaches from San Luis Obispo County through Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties including the Malibu Coast. High tides are expected to reach 7.5-8.0 feet (MLLW) late Thursday morning, 1.0 to 1.5 feet above astronomical projections, decreasing somewhat Friday but remaining near 7.5 feet around noon. Minor to moderate coastal flooding is likely in low-lying areas including beach parking lots, bike paths and harbor walkways, with moderate to significant beach erosion expected and isolated structural damage possible in the most vulnerable areas. The NWS advises residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground and warns against driving through floodwaters.

Oxnard District 1 Candidates Speak Before Nov. 3 Election

Three candidates for Oxnard City Council District 1—incumbent Bert Perello, Ventura County prosecutor John Barrick, and former State Assembly staff member Eduardo Huerta—spoke at the Oct. 21 Cabrillo Neighborhood Council meeting, their final forum before the Nov. 3 election. Candidates addressed topics including Measure E (a city sales tax extension), airport flight patterns, traffic calming measures, parks funding, and neighborhood council input on spending. Perello warned of a claimed $20 million annual budget hit if the tax extension were not approved by 2029, while Barrick emphasized fiscal responsibility and community prioritization. Huerta advocated for greater neighborhood council involvement in funding decisions. Juan Carrillo, the Cabrillo Neighborhood Council chairperson, moderated the meeting.
