Lake County Administrative Officer Susan Parker announced her retirement effective Dec. 31, ending a tenure that began in May 2022 amid criticism of her department's oversight of county finances. Her staff projected a $71 million general fund deficit within several years, prompting a June hiring freeze and 5 percent across-the-board department cuts. The fiscal year 2026-27 budget of $437,190,366 in appropriations was adopted at the edge of the state's Oct. 2 statutory deadline, with multiple departments reporting they had not received updated documents in time for review. Board of Supervisors Chair Brad Rasmussen credited Parker for supporting staff, while retired Public Services Director Kim Clymire called the budget process a "fiasco" in a commentary.
