Solvang Mayoral Candidates Debate Housing, Taxes, and Public Safety
Incumbent Mayor David Brown and challenger Denise El Amin discussed housing affordability, city boundary expansion, business taxes, traffic congestion, and public safety ahead of Solvang's mayoral election. Brown proposed partnering with Vandenberg Space Force Base for housing growth and reducing barriers for new businesses, while El Amin called for defining affordable housing thresholds, opposing city-limit expansion, and halting tax increases. Both candidates addressed pedestrian safety in downtown Solvang, where tourism drives seasonal traffic congestion, though they differ on long-term versus short-term planning approaches.
