Two San Jose Police Officers Charged in Alleged Drug Evidence Cover-Up
San Jose police officers Raydarius Surry, 29, and Destiney Thompson, 30, were arrested Wednesday and charged with one count each of tampering with evidence and filing a false police report. The investigation began in August when a bag of suspected narcotics listed in a police report failed to appear in evidence; Surry allegedly substituted a similar bag from an unrelated pedestrian stop, while Thompson allegedly accessed body-worn camera footage to help plan the cover-up. Both officers, who have been on paid leave since September, were booked into Santa Clara County Jail. San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph said the department moved swiftly to remove both officers and pursue criminal accountability.
