Santa Clara Seeks Developer for Downtown Revival; Pre-Proposal Conference Nov. 18

The City of Santa Clara has released a request for proposals seeking a development partner for the first phase of its long-planned downtown revitalization on nearly five acres at 900 and 1000 Lafayette Street, near Santa Clara University. The mixed-use project is expected to include at least 300 residential units with 25% designated as affordable housing for low-income households, along with restaurants, retail space, public gathering areas, and cultural amenities. City officials say existing businesses on the site, including The Hungry Hound and Frozos, will likely be demolished as part of redevelopment. A mandatory pre-proposal conference for interested developers is scheduled for Nov. 18, with developer selection estimated to take about nine months and construction still years away.

49ers Acquire DeForest Buckner from Colts Ahead of Trade Deadline

The San Francisco 49ers traded a 2027 fourth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, pending a physical, a league source confirmed Tuesday. Buckner, 32, returns to the team that drafted him seventh overall in 2016 and with which he reached Super Bowl LIV before being dealt in March 2020. The acquisition addresses injuries on the 49ers' defensive front, including the absence of defensive end Nick Bosa (calf strain) and nose tackle Alfred Collins (knee injury). Buckner is a three-time Pro Bowler and 2020 AP First-Team All-Pro interior rusher who joins a 6-1 roster pushing for another Super Bowl appearance.
