Lompoc Council Grants Two-Year Extension to Space Base California Project

The Lompoc City Council voted 4-1 on Tuesday night to grant a second two-year extension to Pale Blue Dot Ventures' ground lease for the proposed $150-million Space Base California attraction on 82 acres including Ken Adam Park. The extension gives the organization additional time to secure financing, with CEO Steven Franck targeting $50 million in equity capital and STEM grants. Councilmember Jeremy Ball opposed the extension but voiced continued support for the project, while Mayor Jim Mosby argued a longer timeline was needed to attract investors. Pale Blue Dot has raised approximately $2 million since its 2019 memorandum of understanding with the city, with roughly $500,000 in the past two years. The project description for environmental review is about 75% complete, according to Franck.
