Rapid City Post-Halloween Disposal Guide; Light Recycling Through Jan. 31
Rapid City officials are advising residents on proper disposal of post-Halloween items, including carved pumpkins, worn costumes, and tangled holiday lights. Carved pumpkins can be composted or dropped at yard waste sites at Fitzgerald Stadium, the Nickel Street collection site, or the Rapid City Landfill, provided candles, wax, and artificial lights are removed first. The city's annual holiday light recycling drive kicked off Sunday and runs through January 31, with drop-off bins at roughly a dozen locations including the Rapid City Public Library, the landfill entrance, and retail partners such as Runnings, Menards, Fleet Farm, Boyd's Drug Mart, Ace Hardware, and Waters Hardware. Officials also reminded residents to remove political yard signs promptly after Election Day and never post them on utility poles or public greenways.
