Wyoming Proposition 1 Property Tax Measure on Nov. 3 Ballot

Wyoming voters will decide Proposition 1, the state's first citizens' initiative ballot measure in 30 years, which would exempt 50% of a primary residence's assessed value from property taxation, reducing annual revenue by an estimated $92.6 million to $124.8 million. Governor Mark Gordon, county treasurers, fire chiefs, and education groups oppose the measure, warning of service cuts to schools, hospitals, fire departments, and infrastructure, while supporters including Wyoming Freedom Caucus-aligned advocates argue government reserves can absorb the impact without critical service reductions. The initiative was certified by Secretary of State Chuck Gray in January 2025 after verification of more than 30,000 signatures, and requires a simple majority to pass.

Yellowstone Roads Close Nov. 1; Last Drive Day Oct. 31

Most Yellowstone National Park roads and entrances close Sunday, November 1, with October 31 being the last day to drive through the West, South, and Cody's East Entrance. The North and Northeast entrances remain open year-round, though access to the Northeast entrance from Cody is weather-dependent due to an unplowed road section outside Cooke City known as 'the plug.' Park Superintendent Cam Sholly is departing for a role at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the park has selected the Center Alignment for the permanent road into Gardiner, converting the historic Gardiner Road to a multi-use recreational trail. Winter oversnow vehicle access opens December 15, with the East Entrance winter season running through March 15.
