Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies shot and killed Joshua Senfeld, 30, an Army veteran with PTSD, during a standoff at Sandalfoot Square west of Boca Raton on Oct. 28. PBSO received a call at approximately 9:36 p.m. from relatives reporting Senfeld suicidal and armed; deputies found him at about 9:55 p.m. and negotiated until approximately 11:29 p.m., when they fired after he began to stand up holding a handgun. At a briefing the next day, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the gun was in a "ready position" but declined to confirm whether Senfeld pointed it at deputies, while PBSO's initial advisory and updated release give differing accounts of the encounter's duration. A PBSO cruiser towed from the scene appeared to have bullet holes, which Bradshaw could not explain. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office, and PBSO Violent Crimes Division are investigating; body camera footage availability has not been confirmed.

Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa paid $250,000 to settle with grant accountant Erika Santos, who was fired after expressing critical opinions about Charlie Kirk following his death. Three Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission employees received settlements, the largest at $485,000 for biologist Brittney Brown, whose case led a judge to find the state made false statements and engaged in vexatious litigation. At Florida Atlantic University, three instructors were placed on leave over social media posts criticizing Kirk; FAU retained the law firm Lawson, Huck, Gonzalez at rates up to $925 per hour without a competitive bid process. One FAU professor, Kate Polak, who did not regain her position, is preparing to sue the university. The ACLU represented Santos and argued that public employers cannot fire workers for expressing personal opinions.
