The Boca Raton City Council voted 4-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 27, to place a $125 million general obligation bond on the March 9, 2027 ballot to fund a new police headquarters, 911 communications center, evidence storage, and a dedicated downtown police facility, costing approximately $100.92 per year for the average residential property. The council also named Deputy City Manager and CFO James "Jim" Zervis as interim city manager effective Wednesday, Oct. 28, following City Manager Mark Sohaney's resignation announced Oct. 16 with an effective date of Nov. 11. A separate resolution confirmed that the city's 25-foot height limit for single-family homes does not permit additional living floors in roof space, applying to applications first submitted on or after Oct. 27 while grandfathering earlier active submissions. The council also approved a site plan amendment for The Bertani at Broken Sound, an eight-story, 60-unit apartment building at 5901 and 6001 NW Broken Sound Parkway.

The Walgreens Flu Index shows Florida as a flu hot spot as of Oct. 19, with a score of 4.32 versus the national average of 2.31, and Broward and Palm Beach counties reporting higher case counts week over week. Real estate investor Marc Roberts sent a mass email on Oct. 21 urging recipients to contact Gov. Ron DeSantis to oppose Islamic center projects in Delray Beach, Loxahatchee, West Palm Beach and Vero Beach, according to The Real Deal. The Delray Beach project, approved in 2023 and including a school, day care and mosque, has drawn repeated protests at City Commission meetings; an Oct. 3 meeting ended with swastika-wearing demonstrators shouting anti-semitic slurs in the county civic center's parking lot, per WPBF reports. Interfaith leaders, including Boca Raton Interfaith Clergy Association co-president Rabbi David Steinhardt, publicly defended the project participants, citing decades of community involvement. Roberts' attorney did not respond to requests for comment.

Fourteen-year-old Kevin Sosa was struck by lightning while playing soccer at Sea and Sand Mobile Home Park in Boynton Beach on Aug. 23, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue EMS captain Paul Leser. His father Roberto Sosa, who had no medical training but learned chest compressions from TV shows, performed CPR that restored his son's pulse before responders arrived. Kevin was treated at Delray Medical Center and released after roughly one month; he continues physical therapy three days per week to relearn walking, talking, and hand use. The family visited the hospital on Wednesday to thank fire rescue, EMS, and medical teams. Pediatric emergency physician Peter Antevy noted that only about 40% of cardiac-arrest victims receive bystander CPR, urging immediate action rather than waiting for responders.
