$15 Billion Data Center Complex Divides Port Washington, Wisconsin
A $15 billion hyper-scale data center complex by Vantage Data Centers, in partnership with Oracle and OpenAI, is under construction on 2.5 million square feet of former farmland along two miles of highway in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The project, part of the Stargate AI infrastructure program announced at the White House, has prompted protests, multiple lawsuits, and arrests for civil disobedience among nearby residents. Port Washington Mayor Ted Neitzke approved the project, citing projected jobs, tax revenue, and infrastructure improvements, while opponents call for buffer zones, environmental reviews, and greater voter input. Operators have declined to disclose contract terms, a secrecy that residents say fuels unease.
