Two Men Convicted of 2023 North Charleston Murder; Sentences Handed Down
A Charleston County jury on Oct. 9 convicted Qutairus Capers-Mitchell and Ti'Zaveis Grampus of murdering Emmanuel Johnson in a June 4, 2023 ambush shooting in the North Charleston area. Capers-Mitchell was sentenced to 45 years in prison; third defendant Bernard Brown, who pleaded guilty on the first day of trial, received 30 years. Grampus' sentencing was deferred pending a pre-sentence report. Prosecutors presented evidence including Snapchat images posted 18 minutes after the killing showing defendants posing with guns that matched shell casings at the scene.
