Sandy Hook Families Urge Supreme Court to Uphold AR-15 Bans Ahead of Dec. 2 Arguments
Relatives of Sandy Hook Elementary School victims filed a friend-of-the-court brief on Wednesday urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold state and local bans on semiautomatic rifles. The filing supports Connecticut’s ban, enacted in 2013 after the Newtown massacre, and argues these weapons cause extreme lethality. Justices are scheduled to hear oral arguments in two cases challenging the bans on December 2. Gun rights advocates argue that such restrictions violate the Second Amendment.
