Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine Receives LCME Preliminary Approval in New Orleans
Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine, the only HBCU medical school in the Gulf South and the fifth at an HBCU nationally, received preliminary approval from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. Located at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, the college will recruit its inaugural class of 50 students for summer 2027, with applications opening through AMCAS in the coming weeks. Dr. Leonardo Seoane has been named president and founding dean. The school plans to grow enrollment to 100 students per year and addresses physician shortages affecting 60 of Louisiana's 64 parishes.
